2006年12月22日，创始人李伟峰（Weifeng Lee）在上海成立指弹中国网站，开始在中国推广指弹吉他文化，2007年到北京进行原声吉他文化推广并开设乐器实体店，至今在国内外举办近千场原声吉他和尤克里里音乐会，同时举办指弹夏令营（2017年更名为“鲸啄原声吉他艺术节”）、WAGF指弹大赛、亚洲原声吉他论坛、原声吉他和尤克里里大师班等活动，保持与国内外一流音乐家开展合作交流，并将中国的优秀指弹演奏家推荐到国际舞台，其中WAGF指弹大赛已经成为国际上深具影响力的重要原声吉他比赛之一。 2017年，合作众多国外独立制琴师品牌，在国内进行手工琴文化宣传与推广。
2018年指弹中国成立12周年，正式更名为指弹中国集团，成为集演出、文化出版、产品销售、媒体、教育为一体的传媒文化集团。2020年，指弹中国推出“指弹音乐”APP，让大家可以用一个APP尽览原声吉他和尤克里里的大千世界。2021年指弹中国成立15周年，推出旗下教育品牌鲸啄音乐——为集团用心打造的教育名片，目的是集合指弹中国的国内外资源，打造一套科学有效的原声吉他和尤克里里教学体系，考级系统，服务于来自全国的合作伙伴和加盟伙伴，同时举办2021第一届WAUF青少年尤克里里大赛和第一届WAUF国际尤克里里大赛。
2022年，开设自媒体账号“指弹中国李校长”“鲸啄乐器”，面向网络进行大众普及指弹吉他文化以及手工琴文化。

So far, he has held nearly 1000 Acoustic guitar / Ukulele concerts in China and abroad, as well as the Fingerstyle Guitar Summer Camp (renamed “Whalewoodpecker Acoustic Guitar Festival” in 2017), WAGF Guitar Competition, Asian Acoustic Guitar Forum, the Acoustic Guitar/ Ukulele Master Classes. Study and exchanging music cultures with foreign artists, and have recommended China’s outstanding guitar players to the international stage. Now WAGF guitar competition has become one of the most influential important acoustic guitar competitions in the world. In 2017, we cooperated with many foreign hand made guitar luthiers to promote handmade guitar culture in China.
In 2018, the 12th anniversary of the founding of Fingerstyle China officially changed its name to Fingerstyle China Group and became a media and cultural group integrating performance, book publishing, product sales, media and education. In 2020, FingerstyleChina launched the “Fingerstyle Music” APP, which allows you to enjoy the whole world of acoustic guitar and Ukulele with one APP. In 2021, on the 15th anniversary of the founding of Fingerstlye China, it launched its educational brand–Whalewoodpecker Music, with the aim of sharing resources from China and abroad, creating a scientific and effective acoustic guitar and Ukulele teaching system, grading system, and serving partners from all over the country, At the same time, the first WAUF Youth Ukulele Competition and the first WAUF International Ukulele Competition were held in 2021.
In 2022, we opened a Douyin account “FingerstyleChina Mr.lee” and “Whalewoodpecker Instrument” to popularize the Fingerstyle guitar culture and handmade guitar culture to the public.
